Cat Whisperer, Is There Really Such A Thing?
Cat Whisperer Fact or Fiction?
A cat whisperer is really just someone who knows how to communicate with cats. Someone who understands the animals body language and has probably spent a hell of a lot of time around a lot of cats. In fact anyone who spends time with cats and loves them is likely to be a cat whisperer to some extent or another. Cats are extremely intelligent and communicative creatures and they also have amazing powers of intuition. They can pick up so much more than we are aware of through their acute sense of smell and the way they read our own body language. A cat will already be sizing you up the instant it meets you to decide whether you are a threat or not. A cat whisperer will be pretty astute at reading these subtle symptoms whilst conveying themselves as none threatening. The secret to dealing with cats whether you are a vet or a cat lover is in your sincerity towards them. A cat whisperer understands this and makes sure that he isn’t interpreted as a threat otherwise there won’t be any trust with the animal and this of course is crucial at the outset if the cat whisperer is going to be able to help solve issues with the animal.
What Does a Cat Whisperer Actually Do?
A cat whisperer is usually an animal behaviourist and they are often called in to sort out issues with family cats. These most often take the form of severe behavioural problems like violence and even damage to the home. Many cases have involved poor interaction with other family pets and even worse children. Any cat whisperer worth their salt will tell you that most issues they encounter are rooted in undiagnosed illnesses or underlying traumas in the home. It’s all about understanding the animal and reading the signs but there is a whole lot more to it as well. A skilled cat whisperer or any animal behaviourist will be taking a lot of care over how they speak and move. You will usually find that by nature, such professionals are laid back and very gentle people. This is essential when dealing with animals especially if they are stressed or unsettled. Once an animal is at ease and trust the person trying to help it progress will be a lot smoother. If a cat doesn’t trust a person or even worse perceives them as a threat they will most like run off and hide. Once this happens its a long waiting game until the animal gains the confidence to come out into the open again.
When Is It Time To Call In A Cat Whisperer?
If your usually placid and friendly kitty suddenly turns into a snarling hissing monster the first thing to do is seek the services of a qualified vetenairy practitioner. They will be able to asses if there is any physical problems with your cat. Quite often a cat in pain will react violently because it equates its discomfort with any touching or interference. A common situation is where cats have been fighting and the wound goes septic causing a very painful abbess to form. Cats with this condition can suddenly turn violent even towards loving owners and their families and to make matters worse they are extremely difficult to catch. Only once all other avenues have been explored should you consider calling in a cat whisperer to find the underlying cause of an animals bad behaviour. There is always an underlying reason why any animal will display a dramatic behavioural change. The cat whisperers role is merely to get the cat to trust him enough so that a closer examination can be carried out to find this underlying problem. There are of course some rare cases where an animal has experienced some stress and the reason is never identified but patience and a rebuilding of trust are tools that are at every cat owners disposal.
